| | The Penfold story is one of the great stories of the Australian wine industry. From the beginnings in 1844, the name Penfolds is now become synonymous with the greatest red wines in the world.
Since the 1950s when Max Schubert championed fundamental changes in the philosophy of winemaking in Australia, Penfolds has continually experimented with new wines and new ways of making wine.
Until the 1950s Penfolds success was built on fortified wines. It was not until the development of Penfolds Grange and St Henri that the company forged its reputation for fine table wines. The winery has continually evolved, at all times ensuring it offers wine drinkers the best quality and value. Koonunga Hill was introduced in 1976; the first vintage of Magill Estate was 1983, the first vintage of Rawsons Retreat was 1994.Penfolds white winemaking trials in the 1990s resulted in the first vintage of Yattama in 1995, whilst the highly acclaimed Barossa Valley Shiraz 'RWT' was launched from the 1997 vintage. | | Address | PENFOLDS Magill Estate, 78 Penfolds Road, Magill, 5072 Australia PENFOLDS Barossa Valley, Tanunda Road, Nuriootpa, 5355 Australia |
